This is a harder to find piece of Scottish stoneware. It is squat elongated teapot. It is certainly a fabulous dynamic mid-century shape. It is decorated with the very attractive atomic pattern called Hebrides. The design certainly has a Festival of Britian feel to the pattern.
It was made by Buchan Pottery, who were based at Portobello, near Edinburgh (now closed).
The teapot is 10 1/4 inches from the spout to handle. It is 6 inches in height and has a depth of 6 inches. It is 800 grams in weight.
It is also much rarer as it has been marked with the word "sample" which runs length wise along the spout and also on the lid. The pottery would have kept a design for reference purposes to show potters and decorators what the final item should look like. These sample pieces could also be shown to prospective clients to show them a sample of what items in their orders might look like.
My pretty teapot is excellent vintage condition with no chips or damages and nice and clean inside with no staining etc. As mentioned event plain elongated teapots are harder to find. This is all reflected in my asking price.
