This is another pretty piece of Victorian Scottish pottery made by Robert Heron & Sons / Methven Pottery / Links Pottery, Kirkcaldy.
It is one of a small group of harder-to-find lidded storage canisters which I have for sale.
This one is a more unusual pattern with its big blousy purple and yellow flowers Dimensions: Overall height from base to top of lid knop is 5 1/2 inches. The main body section is 4 inches in diameter with a height of 4 1/4 inches. The weight unpacked is 500 grams.
Location Code: E
It is in good antique condition with no chips or cracks. There is some fine craquelure to the main body. This is evident only on close inspection. The base of the pot has discoloured slightly but again not so noticeable. That is the only condition issue which is nothing really to worry about for a rarer pot of this age.
These do not appear on the market that often. This is reflected in my listing price, please see my other ones in my store
Robert Methven Heron was the owner of the Fife Pottery in Kirkcaldy. He introduced a new pottery range called Wemyss Ware in 1882.
It is certainly a very fresh hand-painted pattern. Again, this pot has no issue marks or pattern details on the base etc but it is consistent with designs and patterns regularly used on a variety of other Kirkcaldy wares.
