This is a fabulous complete tea or coffee set. It totals up at 15 separate pieces.
It dates to the 1920s or 1930s - and it is all hand-decorated by a Scottish Lady Painter or Decorator on china blanks - which were imported from Czechoslovakia.
Each piece in the set has the green discus thrower mark used by the Czech P.A..L.T pottery.
Each piece is also inscribed on the base with the painted marks of the decorator: M.E. Reid - who I assume was associated with Scottish potteries such as Bough or MakMerry - and who often used blank pieces made by other factories or firms and then engaged "ladies" to paint the patterns onto them.
This is a particularly fine one - and it has a delightful Art Nouveau pattern (different on each one) which reminds me a little of ceramic wares decorated at this time by Mary Elizabeth Watt - so this set might have more West Coast associations - perhaps with the Glasgow Girls.
I have found a bookplate dedicated to a certain Mary Elizabeth Reid by Jessie M King - so perhaps this might be one of her friend's and perhaps the lady who has decorated this set.
All the same - this is a fabulous and highly decorative hand-painted fine porcelain coffee or tea set- the ground of each piece is a very pale lemon colour - with pretty jugendstil floral decorations (including images of Glasgow Roses) around the top. All the cups, saucers, milk jugs etc are all different. Quite, quite exquisite.
There are six cups and saucers, a coffee or teapot, a bulbous shaped lidded milk or hot water jug, and a wee sugar bowl. All are in pristine condition with no damages - one of the cups has a hairline crack (taken into consideration with my pricing) - but otherwise, a fine complete antique set about 100 years old which will look stunning on display in your china cabinet - certainly top-quality early 20th-century Scottish ceramics - for the interest of the collector of rare Scottish pottery.
I have taken a few images for your inspection - and more can be supplied for serious interest.
Sadly - this can only be shipped to UK addresses.
