This is a fine and collectable piece of British contemporary studio glass by the glass artist Simon Moore.
This bowl is one from his Incalmo range - it is of circular form - with a COLOUR trail rim. It is signed to the base. These bowls are now hard to source. This is reflected in my asking price. It is certainly a very dramatic large piece of contemporary British studio glass - and it certainly looks magnificent on display.
The diameter at the top is 12 inches - the height is 5 inches.
Simon Moore was born in Hull in 1959. He originally trained as a potter but changed his artistic track. In 1981, he received a BA in Glass from West Surrey College of Art & Design and joined the influential London Glasshouse (Covent Garden) the following year.
In 1989 he set up his own workshop - Simon Moore (London) Ltd, in Clapham London. Moore has also taught at the Royal College of Art since 1988. Strongly influenced by English and Venetian manufacturing techniques, Moore's appointment in 1999 as the creative director at Salviati, made him the only person outside of Italy to hold this position.
Works by Moore are in some prestigious museum collections: including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the Murano Museum of Glass in Venice, the Corning Museum of Glass in the USA, Broadfield House Glass Museum, Stourbridge - amongst others.
So this beautiful bowl can certainly be considered a fine piece of museum quality.
