This is a special novelty item for collectors of quirky Scottish coins / novelty Scottish mined gold items.
The resin weight was made by Colby Gold PLC of ScotGold of Banchory - as noted on the original printed gold label on the base, as photographed. These Scottish gold mining novelties are hard to find now and rather rare - hence my asking price.
Please note that an original 16th-century Ducat would cost you about 25.000.. yikes! The original coin was worth 40 shillings Scots. James's ducat was the first Scottish gold coin to bear a portrait.
It features a small Scottish gold coin inside - it reproduces an ancient Scottish coin a James V Gold Ducat - which dates to 1540.
The paperweight is made of a clear resin material and has a dark green ground. It measures 3 inches in diameter by 1 1/2 inches in height.
I have taken lots of images for your inspection. As you can see - it is in excellent condition with no scratches to the surface or chips.
It will be posted in the UK with Royal Mail Recorded Post - this will cost £4.95 and applied to your order at the checkout.
UPDATE: I was kindly provided with some more information on this replica coin by the former owner of ScotGold. I thank him very much for this extra information. Valerie X
It transpires that a total of 50 paperweights were commissioned by Colby Gold plc. They were to be presented to shareholders. and company staff. They were made by ScotGold Products and each came in a gold embossed presentation box. The gold came from a 30-gram smelted button that was obtained from a test assay on Colby's Urlar Burn license just south of Aberfeldy. The deposit was never commercially mined. There is another one of these weights in the collection of Perth Museums.
