This is a quirky little box which comes from my own personal collection.
I have owned it for many years - and found it again recently packed away in a cupboard.
I have never seen another quite like it - and since I have packed it away since moving house, it is in excellent condition.
It is certainly an unusual box - and it would have originally been used to store cigarettes in on a desk or bar and perhaps offered to visitors or customers.
I used it to keep small pieces of jewellery in.
The lid and sides are made from bronze and the interior and base is wooden, as photographed.
The bronze is all textured and running along the base of the lid is a decorative frieze.
The frieze is slightly raised and is related to wine.
There are a group of wee figures in a vineyard picking grapes. Then they are shown standing at a wine press.
More figures are shown drinking in an outdoor tavern with kegs and vats in the background.
The wee box measures 8 x 4 x 1 /14 inches.
I am assuming that this box is either German or Scandinavian in origin - but there are no maker's marks.
