This is a delightful little miniature vase made by David Leach at the Lowerdown Pottery in Devon.

It is one of two little vases that I have listed in my store.

It is a diminuative size measuring 7 cm in height and diameter of 6.5 cm - it is perfectly formed and shows perfectly David's skills as a master potter. The vase is decorated with a a variety of subtle glazes in shades of grey, light brown and black. The pottery body is made from grey coloured clay. The little piece is embelished with a subtle raised pattern of vertical lines painted with a rust coloured glaze. It has an impressed: DL mark on the side near the foot, as photographed.

In excellent condition with no damages.

It was will be sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked (Small Parcel). This will be applied to your order at the checkout.

SHORT BIOGRAPHY: David Leach was the son of Bernard Leach and also a well-respected studio potter. He was born in 1911 in Tokyo, Japan. He returned to England in 1920 to attend school here and at the age of 19 was apprenticed at his father’s pottery. After leaving the Leach Pottery in St Ives in 1956, David Leach established the Lowerdown Pottery near Bovey Tracey, Devon. He worked there until 2003, creating renowned hand-thrown stoneware and porcelain in the "Leach Tradition," particularly fluted porcelain, He was known for fluted porcelain, Tenmoku glazes, and wax-resist decorations. Lowerdown focused on individual pieces rather than the industrial "standard ware" he had developed at St Ives.

David Leach operated the studio until 2003, with the site being recognized for its contribution to British studio pottery. He was awarded the OBE in 1987 for his work. He was chairman of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain in 1967 and exhibited widely in the UK as well as internationally, in New York, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Munic etc

David Leach died in 2005, two years after closing the pottery. His three sons followed the family tradition and all became potters.
