This is a very fine 1960s circular teak mirror.
It was made by the celebrated Rowley Productions of London. There is a little stamp on the wooden backing the "Row" part of the name is very faint but you can make out the rest "Ley Productions", as photographed. There is also a number written on the original wooden backing and the word "Teak".
Rowley were originally celebrated producers of quality wooden goods such as decorative frames and wooden mirrors. This one is a later production by them dating to the 1960s.
The company started at the end of the 19th century as the Rowley Gallery at South Kensington. They undertook framing work for artists, as well as major galleries and museums. They later expanded to include making decorative marquetry panels, screens and mirrors. This fine teak mirror is a much later piece by Rowley Productions and dates to the early 1960s
This is a very understated British design. The mirror is circular with a diameter of 43 cm. The mirror surface is in perfect condition - free from any blemishes. The teak mirror surrounded is made up of four conjoined teak sections - each with a lovely grain to the wood. You can see the quality in the making - by looking at the little banded joints on the exterior with little oblong decorative inlays. The teak is just a lovely vintage tone and of high quality - I have taken lots of images of the pleasing grain on the wood for your inspection. The backing is original to the mirror - and has carefully been attached to with frame with teeny weeny staples. The mirror is inlaid into the frame surround and not just applied to a teak backing board.
A very sophisticated vintage British teak mirror - just as nice as some of the Danish ones that you might find more readily - or indeed on my website! Rowley mirrors were often on display at the Council of Industrial Design at the Design Centre in Haymarket, London. The round ones are harder to find - and are perfect embellishments for a modernist or Scandi-Modern interior. My price reflects the quality and relative rarity of this mirror.
