This is a stylish 1960s piece of minimalistic Czech Glass.
It takes the form of a tall flared vase with heavy clear foot and midnight blue body colour.
The chunky vase made designed by Milan Metelak in the 1960s for Harrochov.
Metelak was the son of a notable architect and glass designer, Alois Metelak. He began working at Harrochov in 1955 and became head designer in 1961. This designs featured hand moulded glass cased in heavy clear glass. They are simple in line and form - the most notable feature is the waisted bases - which were not only aesthetically pleasing but were also functional in assisting good grip on the vase. This attractive blue colour was one of his most successful colours.
The form and colour is also similar to the glass being produced at the British Whitefriars factory at this time.
It is in excellent vintage condition - with no damages. There is a few scratches on the base (wear scratches) which have occurred where the vase has been picked up and put down over nearly 60 years.
The vase features on page 54 of Mark Hill's publication Hi Sklo Lo Sklo, as photographed.
Dimensions: the height is 8 3/4 inches. The diameter at the widest point is 3 3/4 inches. The vase is 1.3 kg unpacked.
It will posted only to UK addresses and send with Royal Mail Recorded - this will be about £4.95 to ship.
