This is a little group of 19th-century copperplate engravings.

They are probably from a rare antiquarian book which would have featured more images of Swiss Regional Costumes.

These compilations featuring illustrations of European costumes were very popular in the early 19th century with a revived interest in travel and tourism on the Continent after the end of the Napoleonic Wars.

These studies probably date to the 1820s and were published in Paris.

On offer here are four unframed original engravings. The images were drawn directly onto a copper plate - and each print then pulled from the plate - the black outlines were later coloured by hand with watercolour to add the colours to each image.

They are inscribed with the name of each Canton above and below each image.

They are each slightly smaller than A4 in sheet size.

These are an interesting and collectable group of four engravings.

I have each priced at £25 which is a fair price - £100 for the set of four.

They are in good antique condition - and will look fabulous all framed up with cream coloured window mounts and simple frames.
