This is an early piece of Troika Pottery - signed St Ives to the back and with initials for Honor Curtis. She joined the firm straight from school - and decorated many of the early cylindrical pieces. She was Head Decorator from 1969 - 1974.
This wee plate is probably an item for the more specialist Troika Collector.
The dark decoration is as you might find on early little slab vases. I think that this painted mark was used in 1965 / 1966.
It is a rather fragile piece and the plate was probably made in a mould rather than on a wheel. It is a relatively thin piece of pottery in white clay.
The abstract decoration was also used on flasks (as illustrated on p 72 of the Troika publication by George Perrott. A similar plate features on p 77).
It has a diameter of 9 inches (23 cm).
The little dots on the back were applied by a previous owner. The are little felt patches that have been stuck onto the base to prevent the plate from scratching the top of your furniture. I have left them on.
The plate will be sent to the UK Only. UK Postage will be with Royal Mail Special Next Day Delivery - and applied to your order at the checkout. This will be capped at £10.
