This is a lovely piece of Soveit Ceramics. It is a harder to source model and this is reflected in my asking price.
The model was made in the Kiev (Kyiv) Pottery in the Ukraine in the 1950s / 1960s.
The Kyiv Experimental Art Ceramics Factory was founded in 1924. After WWII the company expanded to manufacture decorative items - such as this figurine. The pottery and stylized figures were very popular items both for the more local Soviet market and also for export to leading retailers around Europe.
The figurine features a young woman in traditional Ukranian costume embroidering a length of fabric featuring folk motifs. It was designed by Oksana Zhnikrup (1931 - 1993) for Kiev Pottery. She was a member of the National Academy of Arts (1963).
The National Folk Decorative Art Museum in Kyiv has a collection of pieces by her. In 2017, Zhnikrup's work came to public prominence when the American artist, Jeff Koons used (under license) her ballerina sculptures as inspiration for his work "Seated Ballerina". Her work for Kiev attracts higher prices when it comes up for sale.
Dimensions: Hieght: 7 inches. The width is 4 3/4 inches and the depth from front to back is 6 inches.
A not such a common piece of Ukranian Pottery - and this is reflected in my asking price for this finely modelled piece. It is in excellent condition with no damages.
