This is a rare Staffordshire model of Napoleon - which dates to around 1850.
It is more unusual as these heroic figure models often focussed more on British historical figures and events.
This wee model is based on the famous painting of Napoleon Crossing the Alps - by the French artist Jacques-Louis David. This model stays very close to the pose in the painting.
It must have been a popular model in its day - as there appears to be a few variants and copies made - its smaller size has resulted in not many of these having survived through to modern days.
This version of the figurine is more finely modeled - with all the leg's of the horse evident and the figure of the Emperor has his leg pointing forward - his body is not wrapped and concealed in his cloak (as in the painting) - but in this model, the figure is showing wearing a jacket with blue edging and below a little yellow waistcoat with red buttons - a little variation introduced by the Staffordshire modeller.
There is an air hole to the rear.
Dimensions: the overall height is 6 3/4 inches. The width is 4 1/4 inches and the depth is about 1 1/2 inches.
It is in perfect condition with no damages.
My price is a very fair one and reflects the rarity of this particular model and its excellent condition - probably more of an item for a specialist collector...
