This is a special item for the collector of rarer Portmeirion pieces.
This is a larger-sized storage jar or canister. It is in excellent condition with no damages.
The decoration is designed to look like the natural pattern that appears on malachite stones.
This pattern was produced first produced in 1959 and was issued in much smaller numbers as it was hard to produce and expensive.
The pattern was produced as a sheet of transfers - and these were applied over the whole of the items. Where the transfer sheets were proving tricky to apply - the areas were heavily gilded with gold luster.
The range was very labour intensive and time-consuming and expensive. These pieces were never intended as normal tableware items - but rather for display in cabinets or part of a collection. Given all the difficulties in production - it is no surprise that not so many pieces were produced.
Dimensions: The height to the top of the knop is 8 inches (20 cm). The diameter of the main body is 4 3/4 inches 12 cm.
A rare larger size - which is reflected in my price.
This is a fine and large canister - it is in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
SADLY - THIS WILL BE FOR POSTING ONLY TO THE UK. The postage quoted is for special next-day delivery with the Royal Mail.
