This is a rare piece of Poole Studio Pottery.
It is a 1970s lamp base that was hand-thrown by Poole's master pottery Allan White (signed with his initials on the base and the pattern number, as photographed).
The pattern relates to Atlantis designs - here the bottom section of the lamp base is gouged with random grooves and made to look like the bark of a tree. The top section is made to resemble a subtle beige stoneware with tiny brown speckles throughout it.
Atlantis pieces designed either by Alan White or Robert Jefferson are now hard to find - and are much sought after by collectors.
Please see my other two 1970s Atlantis Lamps with a more abstract pattern on the base - these are listed under Carol Kennett (or Carol Cutler).
The lamp measures 10 3/4 in height (not including the bulb holder) and is 5 1/2 inches in diameter at the foot.
It is all wired up and earthed and ready to just plug in and use. It would look great with a simple cream or dark grey drum shade.
The light switch to turn it on and off is located on the brass bulb holder. The lamp takes a modern bayonet-fitting lamp.
