This is a fabulous German Art Deco Walther and Sohne white frosted glass table lamp. It dates to around the 1930s.
It takes the form of a semi-nude lady (very tastefully modelled!) or nymph who holds aloft a large white opaque ribbed glass globe shade. She kneels on a rocky base with a draped cloth covering her modesty. The base is a square-shaped one - which is rarer than the variant with the round base. I love how her body twists and this gives a feeling of movement to her form.
She is a fine piece of classic European Art Deco design - and it wouldn't look out of place in a Poirot-inspired interior.
The lamp has a nice shiny chrome bulb holder with an on-off finger switch - and it has a chrome gallery on top which holds the glass shade in place, all as photographed.
It has recently been re-wired with a new chrome gallery, modern bulb holder (for standard B22 bayonet bulbs) and long white cloth electric cable to that it is safe and looks good on display.
Walther & Sohne were first established in 1888. They were best known for their range of Art Deco centrepieces, figurines, bowls and vases.
My lamp is in excellent condition with no damage, chips or cracks. The glass is nice and clean with no discolouration or staining. The shade is also in excellent condition with no condition issues.
These stylish lamps are always keenly sought-after, so if you like it! It is also great to find one all restored and ready to just plug in .. a great accent light for a corner in your drawing room or snug.
