This plaque is a fine mid-century piece of Italian art pottery. It is unsigned - which would suggest that it orginates from San Marino. The back of the plate is matt black with a wire to hang it on your wall.
Dimensions: 10 1/4 x 8 inches.
My plaque is a larger example plate is has a black base colour into which fine lines have been drawn to create the design. These show as an incised white in the black ground (Sgraffito). Then a glossy red glaze is applied on the background - but leaving the drawing design untouched. Highlights are added with other coloured gloss glazes. The design features a girl in a white dress with a red scarf draped around her shoulders. She looks back out of the composition. She is an artist - and holds a paint brush and palette - and is about to copy the tall blue flowers seen to her left and right.
There is an artist's signature lower right.
The edge of the plaque or plate is surrounded by a beige and caramel fat lava glaze.
My plate is in fantastic condition - with no damages. This size and condition are reflected in my asking price. It will certainly be a feature piece on a wall in a mid-century modern interior.
It will be sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked (Small Parcel). This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
