This is an original 1960s Pipistrello or Pipistrelli Lamp which was designed for Gae Aulenti in 1965.
It is one of two lamps by her in my Iconic Edinburgh online store.
Both are original mid-century originals and not later reproductions.
The name "Pipistrello" is Italian for bat - and takes its name from the bat-like sections which make up the shape of the shade. The white methacrylate diffuser can be moved up and down and is lit with four bulbs from below, as photographed.
The shade is white in colour with a diameter of about 52 cm.
The base of the lamp is a black colour and has a telescopic rod made of stainless steel - which measures 72 unextended, and can to raised to about 90 cm
There is a rubber mat on the base giving all details of the design - and it comes complete with its original floor foot operated on and off switch.
This is certainly a piece of classic mid-century design.
It is in good vintage condition with no damages to the shade and no burn marks.
There is a teeny weeny indentation to the base near to the aperture for the flex - but this is very minor and not disfiguring, commensurate with age and use.
Sadly, it would have to be limited to UK posting only.
Local pick-up or delivery can be discussed if you reside in Central Scotland.
