This is a lovely vintage 1980s piece of hand-blown Mdina Glass.
Mdina was founded in Malta by Michael Harris with business partner Eric Dobson in 1968, he subsequently moved back to the UK in 1972 to set up Isle of Wight Glass.
My vase takes of form of a decorative modernist vase. It is a tall teardrop or lollipop shape and is decorated with random vertical stripes of yellow and blue (sand and sea) stripes. These colours were sea-inspired shades that recall the seas around the island of Malta. The bottom section of the vase are mottled or speckled ochre glass.
I think the decoration on the vase is called Crysal Blue Stripe. This pattern was first introduced in the late 1970s. "Crysal" is the name given to gold-threaded strips and is often referred to as "crizzle" by collectors.
The base has been polished flat.
This is a lovely example of a Mdina glass lollipop vase. It has no etched signature on the base, but does that the remnants of an old paper Mdina label on the neck. This label design in paper was used at Mdina from the late 1980s up until 1996.
Height including neck: is just over 8 inches. The width at the widest is 5 inches and the depth is 3 inches. Unpacked the vase is 900 grams.
