This is an unusual 1980s Perthshire paperweight and designed by Stuart Drysdale. It was made between 1983 and 1988.
Dimensions: 3 inches in diameter and the height is 1 ¾ inches.
The base of the weight is made up with crumpled white muslin canes. The next layer has a geometric pattern of millefiori canes with the placement of the orange canes forming a star pattern. In the center is a little red steam train.
There is a flat polished viewing facet on the top – and seven polished circular facets around the side. On the base – there is a P cane, as photographed.
The weight is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind – it looks like it has been in its box since it was purchased.
The box is a rather simple one for such an intricate weight – it is made of a dull claret cardboard with a white satin lining where the weight sits.
Probably an item for the more specialist collector of limited Perthshire paperweights – or locomotive related collectables.
