This is a harder to find vintage long chiffon silk scarf by the Italian company, Moschino.
Moschino is an Italian luxury fashion house founded in 1983 by Franco Moschino in Milan known for these quirky and over-the-top designs. Moschino launched its 'Cheap & Chic' line in 1988. This was a diffusion line of lower priced yet equally whimsical designs to the main collections The brand's equally quirky (and properly licensed) mascot, Olive Oyl, was a hallmark of the brand's love for fun.
It is from a series of images that they produced at the beginning of the century which featured stylish image of Popeye's girlfriend, Olive Oyl.
This one is sheer - and more of a pretty scarf to wear on warm spring or summer days. It is made from a chiffon type silk and has a Moschino Label saying that it was made in Larioseta Como in Italy.
My one seems to be a harder to find design, and indeed I havent as yet found another one! It has a black and white zebra stripe printed border which runs all round. The background in the centre has an orange, white and red checked gingham pattern. There is a big portrait of the head and shoulders of Olive at each end. She is shown wearing a large bow or large scarf tied in a bow. This is also a black and white stripe echoing the pattern of the border. Below each Olive is printed Moschino / Cheap and Chic. The label of tag reads Moschino / Larioseta Como and in Italian 100% silk.
The scarf has a thin and finely machine stitched edge.
My scarf is very long coming in at 160 cm. It is also wide - so great for scrunching up around your neck and shoulders - and this is 65 cm.
My scarf is perfectly clean and never worn. It is has no smells or damages - and its pop art imagery is certainly eye-catching.
These examples do not come up very often - and this is reflected in my asking price. You will not be disappointed with it.
