This is another pretty little pendant available in my online store.
It is a very fine example of a butterfly wing pendant dating to the Art Deco period - the 1930s.
This consists of an image of a beautiful kingfisher bird sitting on a tree branch hanging over a river.
The bird has a rose coloured head, iridescent blue wings, red feet and a black tail tip. The branch has emerald green leaves. The river is blue and the background is black with little silver clouds in the sky. Love the birds little bright blue eye.
The cover of the butterfly picture is crystal glass. There is a decorative border all around the edge -and the back is covered in silver. It is impressed SILVER towards the bottom and at the bottom: the patent number 202213.
HISTORY: These pieces of Deco jewellery were initially exhibited by Thomas Mott (TLM) at the British Empire Exhibition of 1924. His company was the largest producer of butterfly wing jewellery in the 1920"s and 1930"s. They were highly popular with ladies in the Art Deco period. These pieces are now becoming highly sought after and collected.
In 1922 that Shipton Co of England applied for the patent (202212 & 202213) for the design of using Butterfly Wings for the production of pictures. This patent number is on the back of this pendant - to helps you to accurately date it.
The back is in good condition no nasty scratches - just one teeny weeny shallow dent to the top left - but this is not seen when worn - and only in close-up. It certainly does not distract from the beauty of this fine piece.
The glass dome on the front is rather reflective - so many white marks on my photographs are merely reflections from the glass and are not on the picture of the bird.
The butterfly section measures: 3.5 x 2.3 cm.
It comes with a chain - which measures 18 inches (45.5 cm). So a nice longer / standard length.
These are now highly sought after, especially larger & genuine antique ones in good condition - so again, my price is a fair one for this wee gem.
