I love this vintage Chad Valley toy.
It is a rare survivor and has an amazing Space Age design that reminds me of cover designs on vintage 1950s / 1960s pulp science fiction magazines.
This one was made by the well-known toy company Chad Valley - who made other similar bagatelle games - but often with more traditional and less dramatic images of them.
This one dates to the 1950s. I love the rocket ship in full launch and heading towards all the fantastic planets shown above it. Not only is this a functional vintage game - but you could also hang it on your wall as a decorative item.
It is in relatively good condition - with only a bit of spotting to the design on the surface. This spotting is commensurate with age and the type of materials used in construction.
Please have a look at all my photographs - which have been taken to help you assess the board's condition.
It is in good working condition and all of the pins are present. There are two little red wooden swivel legs at the top so that you can angle the game on your tabletop and the balls can run downwards.
There are 10 steel balls in the little compartment at the base - you access them by sliding out the little cover section below.
Dimensions: Height is 24 inches (61 cm) and the width is 11 3/4 inches (30 cm). The depth is 1 1/4 inches (3 cm).
The mainboard section is made of a hardboard - with the image pasted onto it. The frame is made of a harder wood - and painted bright red. There are no chips or scuffs to the board frame.
This is a fine example of this harder-to-find Chad Valley game - again, the rarity of this is reflected in my asking price. Apart from being of interest to vintage games collectors - it is also a great piece for a designer looking for more quirky decorative items for mid-century interiors.
UK POSTING ONLY. The game will be carefully packed to send to you and sent with Parcelforce48 - with tracked and insured postage. This will cost £10 and be added to your order at the checkout stage.
