This is a beautiful silver guilloche enamelled brooch by the Norwegian silversmith, Aksel Holmsen. It is marked on the back with his logo consisting of two over-lapping crossed chevrons, as photographed.
It is a nice large size and takes the form of a bright yellow daisy-like flower head with a short single stem. It is in remarkable vintage condition - there is no chipping or damage to the sunshine yellow enamel. The back is also gilded with a gold wash and nice and clean. It is fully marked with maker's details on the back of one of the petals. I love that you can see all the tiny striations on each petal - certainly an indicator of quality. The brooch has a long pin and a simple c-scroll clasp on the back, as photographed.
Overall height is 3 inches (7.5 cm). The diameter of the flower is 2 3/4 inches (6.8 cm).
I also have listed a pair of yellow guilloche clip-on leaf ear-rings by Holmsen listed. These are also nice pieces - and would go well with the brooch as a wee set.
The brooch will be sent to you in a simple card box - and sent with Royal Mail Tracked Post. Please select a SIGNED FOR SERVICE so we can have it fully insured in transit.
BIOGRAPHY: Holmsen's workshop was based in Sandefjord in Norway. He was known for his innovative Modernist enamel and silver jewellery in the mid 20th-Century. He was apprenticed to David Andersen between 1889 and 1892. In 1904, he established his own workshop where he was soon know for his fine modernist designs. In the 1950s they created these wonderful floral brooches. In the 1960s - the company transitioned into making more abstract jewellery in plain silver with no enamelling.
