These canisters are similar to earlier other ones that I have listed by Grimwades. However, they are not by Grimwades - as the lettering is printed in black (not green) - and there are no details of the manufacturer on the jar. They are probably slightly later that the original Grimwades prototype - possibly 1920s or 1930s.
It is difficult to be specific about the manufacturer with the absence of any maker's mark, as a few companies produced these canisters after the Grimwades examples were such success. This pair could possibly have been made by Maling.
The generic name for these storage jars is "hooped canisters" due to there distinctive raised hoops running around the body.
All these old jars were designed for practical household use, storing common kitchen staples.
These ones have the letters: LENTILS AND PEAS on the side of each canister (the lettering is sans serif and the font Art Deco in feel. The colour of the lettering is black). Both have a good bit of age to them - they remains a lovely pair of canisters and in good condition with no damages. This is reflected in my asking price. I am listing them at just under £38 each.
As with my other ones, they look lovely when on display. Each measures 5 1/4 inches in height – and has a diameter of just over 4 inches.
