A badek or badik knife was developed by the Makassar people of Southern Sulawesi, Indonesia. The badek consists of three parts, namely the handle and blade, as well as the sheath or scabbard. It is held to the side of the body.
This is an antique implement and dates to the 19th century. It has a steel blade a wooden sheaf and a black horn handle (of pistol grip form) with bone mounts. Further bone and horn details are on the scabbard and tip of the sheaf, as photographed.
I think that the blade is made of old worn steel- as it has evidence of some tarnish to the metal and little areas of old rust. This is all commensurate with age.
The badek length is from the top of the handle to the tip of scabbard is 10 inches. The blade length is 6 inches.
