This is a cute little vintage caricature cat's head string holder.
It dates to the late 1950s or early 1960s and it was designed by Holt Howard.
You would pop a little ball of string or wool in the back and the end of the string would come out of the little cat's mouth.
The cat has a bow loop at the bottom of his head - into here you would pop in a pair of scissors for trimming off a length of the string or thread.
Even if you didn't wish to use it as a string dispenser - you could still hang it on your wall as a cute decorative item.
Often you find damages to these pieces - most commonly the bow is cracked, or the holes behind the ears - you might more regularly find crazing or crackling to the clear glaze.
My little cutie measures 5 inches in width, has a height of about 4 1/2 inches and is 2 1/2 inches in depth.
My little cat is purr-fect, and his lovely condition is reflected in my asking price.
There is a maker's mark on the base, as photographed.
UK postage would be £4.95 for Royal Mail Recorded Delivery to you - this would be applied at the checkout.
