This is a lovely vintage Italian Glass ashtray. It was probably made a Murano in the 1950s.
It is certainly a good quality item and has been skillfully made. I have taken lots of images for your inspection. There is a very indistinct acid-etched maker's mark on the bottom. I cannot make out any of the lettering - but can see a bird / cockerel in the center of the circular mark.
The exterior of the dish is a bright cobalt blue - with controlled bubbles as decoration and then cased in a thick layer of clear glass. The interior is an abstract pattern - and the glass has been applied in a very painterly manner. The colours are yellow, orange, and blue on the lower layers - and the upper layer is a bright emerald criss-cross pattern - and then with a layer of clear glass.
It was always designed to be used as an ashtray as it has an indentation in each corner. I don't think that it has ever been used as such - there are no marks on the glass - and it is clean and shiny. The glass is in good condition with no chips or cracks. There are some minor age-related scratches on the base - which have occurred as the dish has been picked up and put down over nearly 70 years.
Dimensions: the length is 5 1/2 inches. The width is 5 inches and the height is 1 3/4 inches. It is a very substantial piece of glass and weighs just over 1kg unpacked.
