This is one of three beautiful pieces of Okra Glass in my shop.
They all date to around the same period in the 1980s - and each piece is marked Okra on the base: and with etched signature: D BARRAS.
Okra Glass was owned and run by Richard Golding. The company produced mainly iridescent glass and has been in continuous production since 1979.
My three pieces must have been made by one of his production assistants in his glass studio. It is certainly a most wonderful and highly skilled piece of English Studio Glass at the end of the 20th Century.
This small vase (like a precious diamond!) is totally delightful and I have taken lots of images for your inspection. The glass artist must have been taking inspiration from Tiffany Glass to produce this lovely piece.
The vase is more of a miniature scale of globular shape and with a flared neck. The interest is in the layering and gathering of all the glass colours, applications and dazzling lustre effects.
The height of the vase is just under 4 inches - and the diameter at the widest point is about 3 3/4 inches.
The glass is like a like painting done with glass. The bottom section has a dark dull gold band - which looks like earth. Above this is a base colour of silvery-metallic lustre pale blue - and this turns to a more subtle slightly darker blue towards the neck. There are peppermint green and brown trails of glass running up and down the sides - and these are further embellished with tiny white daisy flowers applied all over at random. At the top are peacock trail loops which are surrounded by iridescent blue shades of glass.
The neck interior is a sky blue lustre - and you look inside the little vase and you see that it is made of a rich Royal blue shade.
Although a smaller size - the value of this piece is in the skill used in the making - it is a unique piece - and you will not find another like it.
Have taken lots of images - these will give you an idea of all the exquisite details in this top quality piece of Okra. It certainly looks even better in "real life".
