I always love these little "folk art" vintage sculptures which are all made from long metal nails.
This one must date to around the 1980s - and there is an old label on the base which states that this very accomplished one was made by the self-taught artist John McPhail, at Camp Cottage, Moffat. McPhail excels at these little "stick" figures which he has been making for the past 30 years.
This figure represents a little skier. His body is made from five silver-tone horseshoe nails. He is shown crouching and is obviously flying downhill at speed as his ski sticks are lifted up behind him. It is a very clever creation!
The little figure is mounted on a shiny black marble or polished slate base.
He is in excellent vintage condition.
Dimensions: The length of the figure's skis are 4 1/2 inches. The height of the figure (not counting the base) is 4 1/4 inches. The total height is just over inches.
