This is a pretty minimalistic Scottish silver bracelet. It was made in Orkney for Ortak Silvercraft in 1975. (as annotated in the box lid).
This is an early design made by the silversmith, Malcolm Gray.
The Ortak brand was founded by local Orcadian Malcolm Gray, who originally took up silvercraft as a hobby and ran the business from a shed in his garden over 50 years ago. His designs proved very popular and the company soon grew to become one of the UK's leading jewellery manufacturers.
This stylish vintage bracelet comes in its original white plastic box, as photographed. This design is probably from a very small production run - and indeed I have never seen another quite like it. It is certainly most beautifully made and in lovely pristine condition.
Dimensions: the overall length of the bracelet is about 7 1/2 inches (19 cm). Each circle link is about 2 cm in diameter.
It is made of 6 silver circles with attached bar sections. The top of which is decorated with an intricate Celtic twisted knotwork pattern. There is an Edinburgh hallmark on the back of one of the rings: with the letter A for the year 1975. It is also indistinctly marked MG - the maker's monogram.
It is a nice bracelet - probably for a slightly more slender or petite wrist size - you want it to rest not so much tight on your wrist - but more loosely on the top of your hand at the wrist joint, so that the rings lie flat. You could of course - lengthen it slightly by putting a couple of little chain links on the ring clasp section at the end. This would not be so hard to do.
It is a fair price for an early piece of Ortak silver in its original box - and of a rarer design.
It will cost £4.95 to post to you with UK Royal Mail Recorded delivery. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
