This is a nice minimalistic grey / clear glass Usva ("mist") vase that was made in Finland in the 1950sfor Nuutajarvi Notsjo and designed by the celebrated Finnish designer, Kaj Franck (1911 - 1989). He was an important influence in the development of Finland's modernistic design in the mid-1950s, and his classic designs still remain popular and highly sought after some 70 years after they were first created.
It is fully signed and dated on the base. The date is for the year 1959.
It is a lovely organic shape and made of thick glass - with a deep section of glass making up the base area - and there are thick glass sides. The vase has formed indentations to each side that adds a more subtle form to the vase. The shape reminds me a little of a tulip flowerhead.
It is in good vintage condition - with no nasty chips or scratches to the surface of the glass. There are a couple of very tiny fleabites to the bottom edge - you hardly see them on close-up examination and certainly not when on display. This is reflected in my asking price for this fine vintage piece of Finnish designer glass. Please look at all my photographs supplied on the listing.
Dimensions: the height is 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm). The width at the widest point is 3 1/2 inches (9cm). It is a heavy piece as the glass is very chunky - and unpacked it weighs just over 1.1 kg
It will cost £10 to post to you so that it is fully insured in transit. This will be with Royal Mail / Parcelforce tracked and recorded shipping service. This will be applied at the checkout stage of your order.
Another lovely glass vase bought from Iconic Edinburgh. It really is beautiful, packed with care and delivered promptly. Over the years I have bought other items and never been disappointed.
Valerie is an excellent seller, thank you so much.
