This is an interesting vintage Scottish paperweight. It is an early one made by Vasart Glass in the early 1950s. It might possibly have been made by Salvador Ysart. The placement of the canes is rather crude which would suggest an earlier date.
It is a nice display size, being 2 inches in height and with a diameter at the widest point of about 3 inches.
The ground is an sugar pink colour. It has a total of ten short latticino spokes (twisted pale green and orange, colours picked up from some of the millefiori canes). These spokes are very subtle and mege in with the pink of the base colour - so are only really noticeable on close up inspection. This weight has central periwinkle rosette. This is surrounded by a ring made of orange canes. The there are rows of orange, green and royal blue canes - issuing from the central rosette out to the edge of the weight. Seen from above - the millefiori canes look like they form a star shape.
There is a rough pontil mark on the base - typical of 50s Vasart paperweights. The dome has more of a grey tinge to the glass - and not as clear in tone as you would find in later Scottish weights. There is a tiny airbubble in the crown - not obvious unless it is held to the light - and you look very carefully for it. It is the size of the tip of a pin!
It is in fine condition and is an attractive Scottish paperweight with no scratches or chips.
