This is a most attractive and very rare Whisky jug or pitcher made by Wade Pottery in the 1950s.
These little ceramic jugs would be either put on display in a shop selling drinks - or perhaps as an advertising promotion in a bar. They would be filled with water - and you would add a few drops if required to your favourite whisky to suit your personal taste.
It is similar in style to those issued about the same time by Royal Doulton Kingsware - these Wade ones are certainly just as nice and finely modeled as the Doulton ones - but seem to be much more affordable!
It is 4 1/2 inches in height.
My whisky advertising jug takes the form of a little-bearded Scotsman wearing a little Glengarry cap. These Wade pieces are now very hard to source and this is reflected in my asking price.
Hand-painted and beautifully modeled with a treacle glaze finish. In pristine condition.
